Out & Equal Workplace Summit

• Alliance Chair Dr. Ploeger and Vice Chair Aimee Nieto with Debra Winegarten (UT Austin) presented at the National Out & Equal Workplace Summit in Orlando, Florida on October 5 -9, 2009.  The title of the presentation was "Good Corporate Policy to Good Social Policy".  The presentation, suplimented by PowerPoint visuals emphasized various Lobby strategies designed to facilitate the Competitive Insurance Benefits initiatives at the State political level. Atticus Circle and Equality Texas  provided input for the presentation.

 Transgender Non-Discrimination Summit

• Alliance participated in the Transgendered Non-Discrimination Summit sponsored byThe University of Houston at the downtown campus on July 23, 2009.  Attendees included the University of Houston-Clear Lake, Rice University, Texas State University, Texas A&M, Houston Community Colleges, and the Houston Independent School District (HISD).  Rice University was the only university present that has already included the phrase “gender identity and expression” into their nondiscrimination statement.  Presenters included Flemming Terrell, attorney Texas ACLU and Phyllis Frye, noted Houston attorney and gender advocate.
